Learning Math Through Music!

Enrolling a child for a STEM summer camp is the best way to help him/her to have a deep-rooted understanding of Math.

When students underperform in the subject of Math, it not only impacts their graduation scores, but on a broader perspective, it also puts the future economy of a nation in danger. This is primarily because a country’s economy largely depends on its capability of generating a skilled workforce that is adept at solving real-world problems. Mathematics is the subject that capacitates an individual to imbibe the skills of problem-solving, computer literacy, reasoning, and communication, all of which are required to survive and thrive in the 21st century.

Why learning Math is so important?

Studies reveal that by the year 2018, USA would have over eight million jobs that require STEM skills as the basic prerequisite. Considering these statistics, it has become all the more important to enable more and more students to be mathematically literate. Moreover, to be successful in the STEM fields, it is imperative for students to pick up Math skills, as this subject serves as the foundation stone for learning science, engineering, and technology. Now, the question arises, how to increase the proficiency of students in this subject. Surprisingly, the answer lies in Art & Music.

How does Music help in learning Math?

One thing is clear, that to attain the best results, Math needs to be taught in non-traditional ways rather than the orthodox classroom learning model. One of the innovative ways is to enroll the child in a STEM summer camp where the faculties take the help of music to teach the subject. Research shows that music helps students to develop a deeper understanding of the subject, whilst making it more meaningful and relatable. It has the capability to grab the attention of the students and keep them engaged in the subject. It is an experiential way of learning Math, wherein kids can see, feel, and understand how the subject applies to the problems and the world at large. In recent times, numerous researches have been conducted on this aspect, and they prove that music renders a positive impact on a child’s mind, thereby enhancing his/her ability to learn the nuances of Math.

What Makes Robotics an Integral Part of School Curriculum?

Those who want their children to pick up the skills of Robotics may opt for STEM summer camp organized by Riverdales After School.

Many schools in Fremont are making robotics a compulsory subject in their curriculum for teaching students of prep up to class 10. Riverdales After School, offering one of the best STEM Summer camp Fremont, has also incorporated this subject in their curriculum. In fact, research suggests that students respond exceptionally well in subjects that revolve around programming of robots. So what’s the hype all about? Let us have a look why Robotics should be an integral part of the instructional strategy for growing children:

1. It offers a fun-filled way of learning new concepts & skills

Robotics allows students to engage in a variety of competitive and fun-filled activities. Kids can build a robot and then participate in a running competition to see whose robot runs the fastest. This not only builds a competitive spirit amongst children, but also instills in them the attributes of perseverance and hard-work.

2. Programming helps in understanding the concepts of science, technology, & engineering

When a child learns to control a physical robot, what he/she actually gets to understand is the basic concepts of science, engineering, and technology. Further, it also makes them acquainted with the fact that all of these subjects are linked with each other. While building a robot, children get to see what and why certain things can go wrong and how to rectify them.

3. Aids in developing skills essential for future employment

There is no denying that in the near future there will be a massive demand of people who are adept at programming mechanical devices. This subject will help children from an early age to be prepped up to meet the challenges of the future job market.

4. Prepares children to combat fear

Once a child understands the strengths and limitations of a machine, he/she becomes better equipped to combat fear. Further, the feeling of developing a machine with their own hands gives a boost to their self-confidence.

It is for these reasons that Riverdales After School makes it a point to include Robotics in their STEM summer camp and after school programs in Fremont CA. Here are 3Reasons Why Kids Should Participate in STEM Summer Camp.
